CAC@SJB members visit the YMCA in Park Slope for a Special Event - Dec. 3rd, 2004
Members of the Center for the Arts & Culture @SJB including Director, Glenn Angel Echevarria, Richie Robles, Edith Maria Baez, and Malik Canty took a road trip, and attended a wonderful evening of spoken word, poetry, and music at the Prospect Park YMCA's Rooftop Cafe in Park Slope, Brooklyn, hosted by Cynthia A. Roby, on Friday, Dec. 3rd, 2004.
It was an evening full of inspiration, and diverse artistry which included many performances by poets and spoken word artists including talented host/m.c., RL "tha Gifted 1", Darcel Turner, Ana-Maurine Lara, Kimabe Becoat, Luis Bernard, Cynthia A. Roby, Greg Wortham, and others, along with our very own, Glenn Angel, Edith Maria Baez, and "Word Bird" Malik Canty in the mix. The evening's music was provided by the very talented, Tonya Carmen, who shared some of her poetry as well. Along with the poetry and music, good food, wine, and refreshments were provided for everyone who attended. After the last reading and final acknowledgements, all the poets and writers who had any material with them were given the opportunity to sell their works, get feedback, and, of course, NETWORK! It was a great time had by all, and we just wanted to take this opportunity to thank all the poets, and spoken word artists for sharing their gifts with all of us, and for making us feel welcome.. and, especially, to Cynthia Roby, for organizing and hosting the event at the Rooftop Cafe at the YMCA in Park Slope.
Thanks for the invitation to attend, and to perform at your event, Cynthia. You are a wonderful writer, a true artist, and a gracious host. Your book, "My Heart Cries Tears of Black", is great. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and recommend it highly to everyone. We look forward to having you visit, and read at the Center here in Bed-Stuy very soon.. and the others, too. From all of us here at the Center for the Arts & Culture @ SJB, we look forward to your next event. Can't wait to do it again! May this new year of 2005 bring you, and all of us, much success, great works, and many blessings.
