After a nice summer break, the season of Autumn is upon us.. and at CAC@SJB, that can mean only one thing.. the In Progress Group's Poetry Workshops are BAAAACK!! Yes, that's right! Luis "Mr. B" Bernard of The In Progress Group is back with a vengeance this fall at the Center for the Arts & Culture at St. John the Baptist.. and he's taking no prisoners!
The new, 5-week Fall 2006 Creative Writing & Performance Workshop for Teens and Young Adults starts this upcoming Saturday, October 14th at the Center.. and will continue on the following Saturdays.. Oct. 21, 28, Nov. 4, and 11. The workshops start promptly at 1 pm and go until 3 pm. So, you better make sure you get there early so that you don't miss anything! And if you already know us, there will be no exceptions. Trust us, you won't regret it!
The In Progress Group Poetry Workshops are presented in association with the Center for the Arts & Culture @ SJB, and are free to any teen or young adult with a love of poetry and writing on a first come, first served basis. You must call and register in advance to be a part of this fall's poetry workshop because seating is limited. For those of you who have attended our workshops before, you already know the drill. For those who have not attended any of our workshops in the past, you are in for something special. All of us who have been part of past workshops already know that we are in for something special.. again!
This Fall 2006 Creative Writing and Performance Workshop, as with all our poetry workshops, is a golden opportunity for young, aspiring poets and writers to learn some valuable lessons, and even some tricks of the trade on the wonderful art of poetry. The workshop touches on a variety of subjects regarding creative writing and poetry including style, structure, and for those of you who may be shy of speaking in public, or may have a little ham in them, the art of performance. We look to help you find the inner writer, poet, and performer in you.. by giving you some exercises and pointers on writing, by challenging you, by providing you with an atmosphere of encouragement and support, by exposing you to successful guest poets who are already doing their thing, by giving you a platform to shine, and then.. SET YOU FREE!! At the conclusion of the workshop, we usually hold a special open-mic event to showcase all the young poets who participated in the workshops.. along with some special guest performers to really make the whole experience that much more memorable! Be assured that there will be a very hot mic on the stage when this open-mic event goes down!
The Fall 2006 Writing & Performance Workshop presented by the In Progress Group will be held at the Center for the Arts & Culture at St. John the Baptist (CAC@SJB) .. located at 75 Lewis Ave. (between Hart St. and Willoughby Ave.) on the 2nd floor of St. John's Parish Center in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn.
